This hangover cure was created because we all love to go out for a few (too many) shots of vodka, play some drinking games, and get a bit crazy after a long day of sightseeing and walking tours. It’s hard work taking selfies in front of buildings and statues we know nothing about. It’s even harder eating overpriced food at tourist traps and getting hounded by street promoters that want you to come to their store or restaurant.
As we all know, getting through a hangover without killing yourself can be a massive struggle. This battel is made even more challenging staying in hostels, and you are not in the comfort of your own home, not to mention a 10-bed hostel room.
Getting from your bed to the common room to eat some breakfast or walk to the closest pharmacy to get some pain killers can seem like an uphill battle that just can’t be won. (I guess those 5 extra Jager bombs at 5 am were not such a good idea after all)
If you’re in a city where you don’t speak the language, it gets even more challenging. All the above reasons make preparing for your hangover all the more important. This is why we have put together this Hostel Hangover Cure, a step by step guide to help you get through your hangover.

First, you need to get a small toiletries bag(a robust plastic bag will also be ok), and this will become your hangover medical-kit. This is probably the most critical thing to travel with besides your passport. Below is everything you’ll need to purchase and do, and how each item will bring you back to life.
HOSTEL HANGOVER CURE
#1 Pain killers
This is an obvious one for a hangover cure, however, many people forget this. You’ll find this out because everyone in your room will be asking for some when they know you have some. ( Pro Tip: be careful not to bring anything too strong as some countries have stricter laws than others).
#2 Liquid IV
Always make sure you have some Liquid IV in your bag, it’s the best way to get hydrated, easy to store and easily mixes with water. This helps clear up a hangover quick smart. Your body uses most of its vitamins and minerals to help process the toxins from all the alcohol you drank, so replacing these vitamins is vital. Of course, it’s not practical to travel with 50 packets of this in your backpack, so vitamin C tablets are a great alternative and can be picked up at most shops. They don’t taste as good or hydrate you as well but stop your winging. All we care about is trying to get rid of that hangover.
#3 Caffeine Tablets
Typically at home, you would have an excellent fresh coffee or even an energy drink, but caffeine tablets do the trick, save a lot of space and have the benefit that you don’t need to leave your bed.
#4 Small Comfort Food
I usually have some little kinder chocolates but choose whatever makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside. This is more of a pick me up for the heart and souls than a hangover cure.
#5 Waking Up
The standard advice usually given is to drink one glass of water for every drink. However, when you’re smashing tequila shots faster than your smashing out 90s dance moves on the dance floor, you don’t have time.
The moment you wake up, smash down some painkillers and caffeine tablets with your Berocca water. It doesn’t matter if you don’t have any nice cold bottled water; some dirty brown hostel tap water will suffice, just get those pills into you. Head straight to the toilet for an “AGB”, this stands for After Grog Bog or, in simpler terms, take a poo and piss, gets rid of all those toxins so you can start to rebuild yourself for the oncoming day.
#6 Rest & Recharge
You are now at the final stretch of the hangover cure. So, it’s time to get back into bed, grab that comfort food, and think of more pleasant times. (or maybe how you’re never going to drink again) As the caffeine tablets can take up to 30 minutes to take effect, use this time to relax and bring yourself together, or have another quick 15-20 power nap. I’m not sure what it is about having a second nap, but it always helps.
#7 Freshen up
Time to hit the shower and clean away all last night’s regrets. Once you’re feeling a little fresher, head to the closest fast-food restaurant and get the greasiest food available. After all this, you should be almost 100% and ready to go. Pro Tip: when you’re on the way back to the hostel on the previous night, and you stop off for a late-night kebab or cheeseburger, take a little extra something greasy that you can save for the morning, so you don’t have to leave the hostel. Of course, if you are getting lucky and taking someone home, then this might not be an option, and the upcoming cardio should help you sweat out some toxins.
If all this fails, then there is only one option, get straight back on the beers, start playing some drinking games, and don’t look back.
